BMW India has confirmed the launch of the second generation X4in India in 2019. The new BMW was unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Midsize SUV-couple to be locally assembled at BMW’s Chennai plant.T he new BMW X4 is essentially the couple version of the X3 SUV and being termed as a SAV or Sports Activity Vehicle-as BMW likes to call it. The model follows the footsteps of its bigger brother BMW X6 and has officially laid the foundation of its bigger brother BMW X6 and has officially laid the foundation for BMW for a whole new niche segment.
Expected price: ₨ 50.00-70.00 lakhs
BMW X4 PLATFORM
The BMW X4 rides on the same Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform as the X3 which has resulted in weight savings of about 50 kgs. The new model is 81mm longer, 37mm wider and is both longer and wider than the X3. At the front, the X4 features larger air intakes and new fog lamps. At the back, the X4 features taillights and the C-pillar that have been taken from the new 4-series Gran Coupe. The most notable feature on the X4, however, is its couple-like roofline, which runs from the front seats and down to the tail lamps.
BMW X4 INTERIOR
Unsurprisingly, the X4’s interior also has plenty in common with the new X3’s. This includes the latest infotainment system which also gets voice and gesture control as standards. The X4 features all the standard controls and switchgear that one would expect to see in a BMW. The centre console has been finished in high-gloss black and aluminum strips, while the cabin follows the two-tone interior looks. The centre console sports standard BMW features such as the audio controls, the large LCD screen, and Climate Control.
BMW X4 ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This will initially be offered with two engine options-the X4 xDrive30i, which employs a 2.0litre, four-cylinder petrol that makes 252hp and 350 Nm of torque, and the xDrive30d, which is powered by 3.0 litre, six-cylinder diesel producing 265hp and 620Nm of torque. While the 30i has a claimed 0-100kph time of 6.3 seconds, the 30d is claimed to do the run in 5.8 seconds. Both, models will get all-wheel-drive as standard, along with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
BMW X4 will take on the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and the Range Rover Evoque.
