The compact, lightweight, tail happy sports coupe with 365 bhp on top with an optional 6-speed stick shifter and of course rear wheel drive, BMW M2 will launch in the next few months. The ‘Competition’ package will offer a bump in performance along with some styling upgrades too. At launch, the model will vie against Porsche 718 Cayman and the upcoming Audi TT RS in the segment. The BMW M2 will cost around Rs. 85 lakhs (with no options) whereas it is likely to exceed Rs. 1 crore. As for the launch, expect the new BMW M2 will set to gear up in India in the next few months.
The BMW M2 Competition will feature the same 3.0-litre engine would be fitted in the M3 and M4 models. In terms of output, the high displacing engine makes top power of 405bhp against 550Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties on the BMW M2 will be carried out by a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic unit, while the 6-speed manual gearbox will not make it to the Indian market. As per its performance front, it can attain 250km/hr speed gearing to 100km/hr in 4.2 seconds. There is yet no clarity whether BMW will offer the M Driver’s Package in India that pushes the top speed to 280km/h.
The similar rival Porsche 718 Cayman, the BMW M2 will be rear wheel drive, albeit the latter will be a front engine model, implying a larger boot for storing luggage. The M2 will come in 5 colours along with one standard interior trim option all black. The M2 will get a full sized spare wheel which is only India’s equipment. Its Motorsport ready19 inched forged wheels on the sports coupe. Aside from the standard seats, customers will also get an option for the M-sport leather seats.
Other bits, such as Apple CarPlay, BMW Apps, inbuilt navigation and a high-end Harman Kardon audio system are the additional option that can be added for the elite purpose. While the spare wheel will be a standard fitment on the India-spec model, BMW will also offer a host of ‘M Performance Parts’ in India
