Mahindra & Mahindra and Ford are looking forward to broadening their share in the market and as a result of this, both these companies have signed as many as five memoranda of understandings (MOUs) last week. The memorandum reads that both these companies would work together to develop a range of new products. Basically, the aim of both the companies is to get benefit from each other’s strengths. Mahindra will benefit from the American company’s high technical prowess, the latter will benefit from the UV-maker’s understanding of the Indian market and several cost-saving processes.
The outcome of this agreement will be mid-size SUV that will be sold by the American company. However, Mahindra will provide the platform for the upcoming Ford SUV. The American company has copied the size of Mahindra XUV500 and are planning to launch it by 2021. One of the biggest competitors to this SUV will be Maruti, which is currently leading the sales with its grand Vitara Brezza. Apart from Maruti there are others also standing in the queue to give a tough competition to SUV. The Ford EcoSport and the Tata Nexon also sell in decent numbers. Mahindra, on the other hand, has not yet succeeded with its TUV300 and KUV100. The company could sell only a limited number of both these cars.

Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, said,“We have had these alliance teams working since the last six months to pin down what are the things we could be working together. The MoUs are signed to work on some specific things. The C-SUV will be a Mahindra platform on which there will be a Ford vehicle to be launched somewhere in 2021 or thereabouts. There is another SUV (B-SUV) that we are right now working to see if we should have a common platform.”
This partnership will benefit Ford in establishing a stronger share in Indian market by cooperating with Mahindra & Mahindra in developing new products. Ford will also get an idea about the demand pattern in India by working with Mahindra. Although various American car manufacturers have been trying their level best to impress the Indian customers since decades, all they have to face is the failure every time. They are unable to recognize the demand for different types of cars in Indian market. While cars like the EcoSport and the last-gen Figo sold in decent numbers, the company is yet to make it really big in our car market. Now its time for both the companies to make use of the EcoSport’s platform to come up with a modern compact SUV in this segment. Both these companies will work together to present a world-class range of car in front of Indian car buyerIt’sIts time for them to show their potentials and make the new SUV a great success in our car market.
