Gurpratap Boparai became the successor of Sudhir Rao for Skoda Auto India Pvt.Ltd. a local unit owned by the Czech car makers owned by Volkswagen group. This will come into effect from 2nd April. The official press release was made on Thursday,i.e 12-01-2018. The position was vacant since the exit of Sudhir Rao in July 2017.
Gurpratap Boparai who has earlier worked as Chief Executive at Fiat India Automobiles Ltd since 2017 is carrying more than 25 years of experience in the automobile industry. He has his Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) with honors from Punjab Engineering College and did his Post graduation (MBA) from XLRI.
He started working as Senior Engineer at Tata Motors later switched to Tata Cummins Ltd. and was In charge of the block BU, which had manufacturing, maintenance and quality functions besides production. From 2000-2005 he worked for IVECO as Head O.U and also worked as Plant director of Ocap Chassis Parts before taking up the position of Vice-president, Head of Powertrain Division at Fiat India Automobiles Limited.
According to the company The Indian market plays an important role in Skoda’s global growth strategy, Boparai will be responsible for launching the Volkswagen Group’s MQB A0 IN (Modular Transverse Matrix) platform in India by 2020, a mandate commissioned by the Group “to evaluate a global architecture for volume segments”
