New Lexus ES 300h with Additional Features priced in the range of 60 lakh
Toyota plans to launch the all-new Lexus ES 300h in India sometime in August 2018. Believed to be Camry in a new package it might hit the Indian markets with a price tag of 60 lakhs. Rightly, because it will be arriving completely assembled outside the country and the usual custom duty and taxes will increase the cost.
Only the Hybrid version for India
Although only the petrol version is available abroad, Indian ‘Guests of Brand’, as Toyota fondly calls its loyal customers, may look forward to a hybrid one. The pollution norms being stricter than ever before in India, the need of the hour is a hybrid version.
With a length of about 4.9m, It has a rather bold and rugged look making it appear more sporty than the earlier Lexus. The grille, the headlights, the tail lamps and the enormous boot, all together add to the sharper, larger, visually appealing presence. So the outsides give a majestic look to the new avtar of the Lexus. But as you start it and drive, there is a feel that everything is the same except for the packaging.
Interiors very much in Sync with the Latest
Insides have been updated to present a better and modern look but some switches remind you of older styles. The dashboard is at an angle convenient for the driver and the voice recognition and touchpad operability of the 12.3-inch infotainment system gives it an edge over others. However, Apple Carplay and Android Auto are missing. The digital gauges and the analog clock give a modern yet connected to old times look to the sedan. Not to forget that the19 speaker sound system is a Mark Levinson.

An interesting feature is the button operated front passenger seat to make more leg space at the back, as also a power recline for the back passenger. Here it will be worth mentioning that only one trim is on offer but 10 airbags, sunroof, electric adjust front seats, electric rear sunblind, three-zone climate control and reverse camera more than makeup for this. The seats are well cushioned and very accommodating.
As I said, only the Lexus ES 300h hybrid will be made available to the Indian customer although the Japanese maker is offering the petrol version too to buyers abroad. The combined output of the system is 218hp coming from a powertrain based on a 2.5-litre petrol engine. The engine noise is surprisingly very low even when you hit hard on the throttle.
Claiming 0-100kph in just 8.5 sec the ES 300h picks up real good under any drive condition. You have three driving modes to select from-Eco, Normal and Sport.

Competing with the likes of BMW 5-series and Mercedes Benz E-class, the pricing may be a deterrent for the buyers. There are very few dealerships in some major cities in India, but then you get the adulation due to a Lexus buyer.
