At the Geneva International Motor Show, Skoda has taken wraps off the Vision X concept. It has been touted as the Czech carmaker’s vision for the urban crossover of the future. After the Skoda Kodiaq and the Karoq, the new Vision X Concept is the third model to join the company’s SUV line up. There is time before Skoda gets ready with the production version of the Vision X Concept, but the carmakers have called it the “next systematic step in its SUV strategy”.
Skoda Vision X SUV is targeted towards the modern lifestyle of the active target audience, claimed to offers agility, versatility and driving pleasure both in urban traffic and when venturing off-road. The production version of the Skoda Vision X concept will be the smallest offering from the company’s SUV line up. It will be positioned below the Skoda Karoq, serving as an urban crossover vehicle.
Vision X concept comes with the company’s signature crystalline design philosophy and signature character line running from the headlights to the rear, the side windows which taper towards the rear and the striking wheel arches.
The exterior features and styling element comprise of the signature butterfly grille with double vertical slats and the Skoda logo that features backlighting. The grille has a set of LED DRLs and with the LED headlamps positioned below. Other exterior elements include a wide air dam, skid plate, sporty 20-inch two-tone alloy wheels in a 3D design, sculpted tailgate, and smart LED tail lamps and more.
The cabin comes with a futuristic design. It has the company’s latest infotainment and connectivity features and offers digital services such as Smart Parking, HoppyGo, TwoGo and CareDriver. It offers functions like – direct the driver to available parking spaces, offer the car for rental when it is not needed, offer car sharing opportunities, etc.
The concept car comes equipped with an all-new in-car monitor with a new digital Human Machine Interface (HMI) system. The high-resolution, colour display with touchscreen functionality is integrated into the dashboard as a freestanding monitor above the centre console
Skoda Vision X comes with a unique petrol-CNG-electric powertrain
The new Skoda Vision X comes with drivetrain concept that combines a CNG-and petrol-powered engine with an electric motor. According to Skoda it will provide a spontaneous power delivery and increased agility and makes low CO2 emissions of less than 90 grams per kilometre. It has a new 1.5-litre G-TEC four cylinders, turbocharged engine that has been specially developed for use with CNG (compressed natural gas). Combustion engine and the second motor combined together provide continuous all-wheel drive. The second motor gets its energy from a 48-volt lithium-ion battery, while the lithium-ion battery charges while driving thanks to brake energy recovery. The driving mode select enables the driver to tailor the drive control to suit them.

Vision X is 4,255 mm long, 1,807 mm wide and 1,537 mm high along with a wheelbase of 2,645 mm and the boot has a capacity of 380 litres

Maximum Torque of 200 Nm and the electric motors add an additional torque of 70 Nm
Accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.3 seconds
Top speed of 200 km/ph and range of up to 650 km
The SUV is expected to come by 2020 as Skoda hasn’t given a timeline as to when we will get to see the production version of the car. It’s quite likely that Skoda will bring the production model of the Vision X to India as well considering the growing trend for compact SUVs.
