Tata Motors had unveiled the H5X concept SUV at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. The company has officially announced that the SUV will go on sale in the Indian market in the first quarter of 2019, called Tata Harrier, the 5 seater premium SUV will enter into production in late 2018.
Here we bring you some facts about the Tata Harrier.
FIRST MODEL TO BE BASED ON OMEGA PLATFORM
The toughest Tata SUV till date is based on OMEGA (optimal modular efficient global advanced). This platform is inspired from the Land Rover Discovery Platform. The SUV is built to perform on the toughest of road conditions. In fact, Tata is currently testing the Harrier in the Himalayas.
JEEP COMPASS CHALLENGER
This SUV has been built on the Land Rover platform and will be a Hyundai Creta rival. The concept model measures over 4.5-metre in length, which makes it bigger than Hyundai Creta and Jeep Compass. With the premium interior, powerful engine bold design, Tata H5X five-seater model will rival a range of cars. However, it will mainly target Jeep Compass and Hyundai Creta.
TWO NAME TWO MODELS
While Tata has confirmed that its new SUV will be named the Harrier, it is interesting to note that there will be two versions, each with its own name. The name Harrier will be reserved for the five-seat variant. The seven-seat version of the SUV will get a different name.
As Tata Motors plans to use the most premium available components, the placement of Harrier is still a question. Being a turbocharged diesel car, Tata will try placing the two-wheel drive variant with basic features under INR 10 lakh. The model with a 4×4 drive-train and automatic gearbox may cross INR 15 lakh mark. Not just that, the pricing will vary by up to 5-10% as the launch is scheduled for 2019.
Sleek headlights, angry facial expressions, high bonnet, and sporty bumper will define Harrier’s arrival. Harrier is an evolved version with bigger dimensions, mature expressions, bigger wheel arches and Land Rover inspired rear end. While the roof profile of Harrison is similar to that of Nexon.
The new model will have segment-leading HMI (human machine interface) displays with excellent user surface. The SUV gets two layered dashboard with large touch screen integrated into the centre console. Other features will include electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, centre armrest, automatic climate control, rear AC vents etc.
The Harrier will use a Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA)-sourced 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo diesel engine. Incidentally, the Jeep Compass is also powered by the same engine. The 5 seater variant will have an engine of 140hp while the 7-seater will have the engine of 170hp.
