With the successful launch of Tata Nexon recently and the favourable response received from the market, Tata Motors has now decided to establish itself as the leading SUV carmaker in India. This is clear from the fact that the Indian Carmaker has announced that it would be launching a sub-compact SUV to rival Hyundai Creta and an SUV to compete with the newly launched Jeep Compass. The tentative launch is expected to be around the next FY 2018-2019. Seeing the popularity of SUVs in the Indian automobile market and the growth prospects involved, Tata has now decided to expand its horizons in the SUV segment as well.
Models to be launched are codenamed as Q501 and Q502
Though the names have not been revealed, these models currently are codenamed as Q501 and Q502. Let’s have a look at some of the features expected to be provided:
1)There would be a 5 seater sub compact SUV targeting Hyundai Creta and upcoming Renault Kaptur, the other one would be a 7 seater SUV set to rival Jeep Compass and Toyota Fortuner.
2)Both these models would be based on the L550 Platform, the same platform that Land Rover Discovery is based on.
3)However, both these models would be a lot different in terms of look, feel and styling.
4)The 5 seater model would be powered by FCA’s 2.0-litre Multijet II engine that would provide 138 bhp, whereas in the 7 seater model it would generate 168 bhp.
5) The 5 seater would be positioned above Tata Nexon and the 7-seater would be a replacement for Safari Storm.
It has been 2 years since Tata has started development work on both these models which are a combination of the style, platform and feel of Land Rover as well as Jeep’s Powertrains. With such a high-quality performance and superior build quality, along with the features that are expected, it would be a strong competitor in the SUV segment once it is launched in the market.
