For Volkswagen lovers, There is a good news. Volkswagen had introduced the 1.0 L MPI engine for Polo across 4 trims. The new engine is designed keeping in mind the customer demands of a fuel-efficient vehicle. The new engine gives the fuel economy of 18.78 kmpl as per ARAI. Compared with the 1.2 L engine’s fuel efficiency listed at 16.47 kmpl, the new smaller engine is more efficient. The new engine had passed fuel efficient parameters with flying colours as per ARAI.
General specification of new 1.0 L MPI engine is – Naturally-aspirated, 999cc three-cylinder engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission (MT), and returns the max power of 76 hp (56 kW) at 6,200 rpm, and max torque of 95 Nm at 3,000-4,300rpm.
The 1.2 L engine that is also available in the market, returns the power of 75 hp at 5,400 rpm, and torque of 110 Nm at 3,750 rpm. The smaller engine appears to offer similar power output, though at a bit less torque. The new engine brings in 18 kgs weight reduction in the vehicle. And thus, What needs to be reviewed is the responsiveness of the smaller new engine.
Steffen Knapp, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “Delivering on our promise of continued product introduction and innovation, we are pleased to introduce the Polo in an all-new 1.0 L MPI engine. We are known for our performance and unmatched safety and with this new introduction; we further enhance our brand proposition, providing a diverse portfolio to India’s distinctive car-buyer, with multiple engine options that best suit their requirements.”
