The finalists of the coveted World Car of the year has been announced on 23 January 2018. The categories include 2018 World Car of the Year, World Performance Car, World Luxury Car, World Green Car, World Car Design of the Year and World Urban Car. The jury comprises of 82 international automotive journalists from around the world, who vote for the above categories via a secret ballot. Jaguar F-Pace bagged the ‘2017 World Car of the Year award’, while previous winners include Mazda MX-5 (2016), Mercedes-Benz C-Class (2015), Audi A3 (2014) and Volkswagen Golf (2013).
The 10 finalists of the ‘2018 World Car of the Year’ are:
Alfa Romeo Giulia, BMW X3, Kia Stinger, Land Rover Discovery, Mazda CX-5, Nissan Leaf, Range Rover Velar, Toyota Camry, Volkswagen T-Roc, Volvo XC60.
‘2018 World Urban Car’ has five finalists, namely Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Kona, Nissan Micra, Suzuki Swift and Volkswagen Polo, while cars like Audi A8, BMW 6 Series, GranTurismo, Lexus LS, Porsche Cayenne and Porsche Panamera will be fighting it out for the title of ‘2018 World Luxury Car’. There’s also the award for the prestigious‘2018 World Performance Car’, and the finalists for the same are Quadrifogliothe world deliberating over the Sustainable Developmental Goals and formulating Environmental policies, the award for ‘World Green Car of the Year’ is awarded to the most energy-efficient car, and nominees for the same are: BMW 530e performance, Chevrolet Cruze Diesel, Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid and Nissan LEAF. Finally, there’s the ‘World Car Design of the year’ award, for which a panel of design experts from around the world cast their vote, and the top designs of this year are: Citroen C3 Aircross, Lexus LC 500, Range Rover Velar, Renault Alpine A110 and Volvo XC60.
The manufacturers and car enthusiasts would be waiting for the results with baited-breath till 28 March 2018, when the results are slated to be announced. May the best one wins!
