1. SUV (Sports Utility Vehicles)
Though the sport utility vehicles have been in the market since 1930,but it only became popular during 1990’s.The design of an SUV is based on a truck frame with powerful engine capacity suited for off-road trails,though nowadays soft roaders are also available in the market. Some examples of SUV are Mahindra Thar, Mahindra Scorpio, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Honda CR-V, Renault Duster, Skoda Yeti.

2. Sedan
It is also called Saloon and is a passenger car with a design often called “three box” design having a bonnet covering the engine and a separate trunk storage area. It has a seating capacity of 4 and is a family car.Some of the Sedans available today are Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, Ford Fusion , Toyota Camry and Honda City.

3. Hatchback
It’s a car which has a sloping back and a hinged rear door, along with an aerodynamic shape which increases efficiency and interior space .The sporty and compact design usually have a seating for four-five people.Some examples of hatchbacks available today are Ford Fiesta, Chevrolet Spark, Kia Rio, Audi A7 Sportback, BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo, Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide S.

4. MPV (Multipurpose Vehicle)
Also called people carriers, people movers, minivans or Multi Utility Vehicles these are usually taller than a station wagons. These have three rows of seating designed to be very spacious seating 7-8 people. Some MPV are Toyota Innova, Maruti Suzuki Omni, Maruti Suzuki Eeco, Datsun GO+
5. Estate
Also called Station Wagons,these have a body style similar to a sedan having similar frontal design but with an extended rear luggage or cargo area. Skoda Octavia Combi is an example of estate car.
6. Crossover
As the name suggests,it is usually based on a car platform but with the features of an SUV with are suited for light off roadingLess fuel consuming and a large cargo area are some of the benefits that this design provide.Examples are Ford Escape, Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V and Fiat Avventura.
7. Coupe
The design of a Coupe is a sportier version of Saloons cars with the two doors instead of 4 which are there for saloons. Though nowadays there are some coupe available with 4 doors,but typically there are just 2 doors.(the reason why its named coupe is the French verb couper which means ‘to cut’ referring to the number of reduced doors) Some examples are Audi A5, Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and Jaguar F-Type Coupe.
8. Convertible
Also known as the cabriolet,this design contains a foldable or retractable roof providing an open-air passenger cabin for travelling in good weather conditions.It is a popular choice among the luxury cars available and some of these are BMW Z4, Mazda MX-5 Miata and Smart Fortwo Cabriolet.
9. Pickup
These cars have an open flatbed (open rear cargo area) for carrying a variety of Cargo and 2-4 doors for the passenger compartment. These are usually used for transporting cargo and have a limited seating capacity. Some of these cars are Tata Xenon, Ford F-150, Nissan Frontier
